Reminders Tomorrow Thanksgiving Lunch Monies are due

5th Grade SS

Page 84-91.  All comprehension questions, map and quick check throughout our reading. 

6th Grade

Research an image or images of architecture or art in the Middle East via google. 

Read up until page 93 and do questions #1-3.

7th Grade 

Research images about upstate and Western New York state.

Read about the  “Town Meetings,” Triangular Trade and the Atlantic Slave Trade

8th Grade

8A  Do questions 9-12 on pages 363-364 in notebook.

8A ELA Finish vocabulary and questions

8B Combine questions #1-4 that were posted on Web site on 11/10–11/11

These should become the three body paragraphs of an essay on Manifest Destiny.  So combine #1&2 into a paragraph.  Question 3 is its own paragraph as well as question 4.  Do not do intro or conclusion as we will do that in class.

Use your texts and you’re allowed to research via google.

ELA Essay due on Monday

On loose leaf

Two similarities and two differences between movie and book.

Each SS Class has very specific directions.

5th Grade:  Create a Visit Canada poster with the following requirements:

     3 Holidays; 3 Sports; 3 Favorite Foods 

     Use your textbook and notebook.

THIS DOES NOT HAVE TO BE A POSTER but rather printer paper that was already given to students.

Also make sure your vocabulary is done in notebook for pages 92-99.

6th Grade:  Flashcards for vocab on pages 76-83 should be done.

Recreate one of the images from pages 86-92  It can be any image including maps.

Include a description of the image you drew (recreated)

7th Grade:

New England Colonies:  Advertisement to come to the New England Colonies

Just a sketch for now-

Include what is great about this area via images drawn…fishing, trading, religious freedom, timber for shipbuilding, etc.

It can be on printer paper for now and does not have to be on poster paper

It should only be a first draft for now.

8TH GRADE:  Combine questions from web site last week; 11/11 -11/10, into one formatted essay.  (#1-4)

ELA:  finish vocab

8th Grade SS:

Define allegory.

Complete the questions that were posted yesterday in COMPLETE sentences and ensure that your answers are detail-oriented therefore answering the questions completely. 

Find “American Progress,” (the painting) and analyze it further.  Keep in mind, the shading of east verse west; the modes of transportation; the connection between education and modernization; the clear message of MANIFEST DESTINY.

Find and print if possible other pieces of art from the 1800s that reflect westward expansion and Manifest Destiny.  Art includes poetry, paintings, written reflections, etc.

You must include all pertinent information (artist, date, topic) and then 4-5 sentences describing and analyzing the work that you have researched.

Be prepared to combine the questions from this past weekend (Nov. 10th posting) and those from last night (Nov. 12th posting) into one essay response.  This should be in complete essay form (1st draft) by class time FRIDAY.  

 

7th Grade:

Review the following key people during the colonization of America by the English:

Roger Williams, Anne Hutchinson, Thomas Hooker.

What was one thing Puritans believed about towns and government?  What did they establish as a community?

Study your notes from today’s class.  

Study the vocabulary that we noted today as important.

(Northwest passage; representative government; town meeting; persecute; pilgrim; toleration)

6th Grade:  Textbook pages 84-85 and do questions #1-3

5th Grade  DO QUESTIONS #23-26 for HW   Use your textbook and write your answers in complete sentences   The information for these questions are in the lessons that we just completed on Canada.  This includes New France, the Fur Trade, etc.  All students should have relevant page numbers in their notebooks.  Please send messages via Remind if need be however all students completed a classwork group assignment and the pages are noted in notebooks.

24. What language and religion did the French fur traders bring to Canada?

25. How did Canada gain its independence from Great Britain?

26. Which province has considered separating from the rest of Canada?
